Natural Way To Clear Out Your Nasal Congestion From A Cold Or Allergies

Edward Payne

When you have a cold or allergies, you may experience several uncomfortable symptoms. A congested nose is a common, but irritating symptom of a cold or allergies that is simple to remedy. Here are instructions to help you clear out your nasal congestion and swelling so you can breathe better.

Make a Natural Nasal Decongestant Spray

When you have a cold or allergies, the tissues inside your nasal passage can become swollen with fluids, and clogged with nasal discharge. You can make your own nasal spray with ingredients you may already have in your kitchen to clear up your nasal congestion. You can also use this as a substitute for when you do not have a commercially-made nasal spray, and it can work just as well. This recipe is especially safe and effective to use on children and infants who are suffering from congestion in their nose.

How to Make Your Nasal Decongestant

To make this nasal spray, on the stove boil eight ounces of water one minute. If you live at an elevation above 6,500 feet, boil the water for at least three minutes. Boiling the water kills harmful organisms, such as Naegleria fowleri, which is an amoeba that can live in contaminated tap water. Once in your nose, Naegleria fowleri can travel up your nasal passage to your brain and destroy your brain tissues.

After boiling the water, turn off the stove's heat and remove the pan of hot water from the stove. Mix in 1/4 teaspoon of non-iodized salt until it has dissolved. Then, mix in 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda to adjust the pH of the saline solution to prevent stinging to the inside of you or your child's nose.

Increase the Strength of Your Nasal Decongestant

You can also make a nose spray to clear an increased amount of nasal discharge and congestion for you or a child over the age of five. This solution is recommended only for children over the age of five because it contains an increased amount of salt and can sting their nasal passages, even after adding baking soda.

Mix in 1/2 teaspoon salt into eight ounces of hot, pre-boiled water. Then, add in 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda to adjust the solution's pH and decrease its ability to sting the nasal passage. This mixture has a higher amount of salt content than your body, which makes the solution hyper-tonic to pull fluids and mucus from your nose so you can expel them.

How to Administer the Solution

Allow the mixture to cool and suck a small amount into a clean, empty eye dropper bottle. Lean your head over the sink and tilt your head to one side. Aim the dropper to the back of your head, not to the top of your head. Spray the solution into your nose, allowing the solution to run out your other nostril and down your throat. Repeat this while spraying the solution into the other nostril. Blow your nose to get rid of any now-loosened mucus.

To treat a newborn, lay your baby down with their head slightly lower than the rest of their body and spray one squirt into each of their nostrils. Let the solution remain inside their nose for one minute, then use a nasal aspirator to suck out their nasal mucus. If your baby sneezes and pushes out any loosened mucus, catch it in a tissue and suck out any remaining mucus with the nasal aspirator.

Store the rest of your saline solution in a closed jar at room temperature. Use the nasal solution as often as your nasal passages become blocked. Each time you need to use the solution, first, shake the container to mix any settlement and add it to your dropper. Also, clean the nose dropper after each use by rinsing with clean water and allowing it to air dry.

Understanding The Value Of Online Personal Training

Hello. Welcome to my site. I'm Vanessa Bulger. I have a newfound passion for online personal training after struggling for years with my weight and lack of muscle tone. I never believed I could be fit and strong before coming across personal trainers online. Instead, I simply believe the family ideology that we were big boned people who could not lose weight. Turns out, we simply didn't understand the mechanics of a good diet and exercise program. I followed my trainer's advice and, much to my surprise, slowly started to lose weight and gain strength. Today, I am fit, toned and couldn't be happier. I'd like to share information about the exciting online personal training industry with you through this site. I hope my information will inspire others to take control of their lives and improve their health with the help of a personal trainer. Thanks for visiting.
