If you're a male in your 20s or 30s who notices fine lines and wrinkles around your nose, mouth and eyes, take steps to improve your skin every night. Wrinkles and fine lines don't just develop in women. They can also show up men as early as 20 years of age. Sometimes, the way you sleep at night or care for your skin before bedtime encourages wrinkles and lines to develop in your face. But you can improve the quality of your skin with these nightly home care tips for men.
Change Your Pillow
If your pillow looks flatter than a pancake, change it now. Depending on your body size, your head weighs anywhere from 10 to 12 pounds. If you lie on your sides during the night, you're placing too much weight on your facial tissues.
For instance, if you lie on your right side, the weight of your left side pushes down on your cheeks, temples and jawline. Because your pillow is flatter than it should be, the skin of your right side doesn't have room to breathe, nor is it supported properly. The left side of your face loses elasticity because it lacks support as well.
You develop deep lines on both sides of your face over time, especially in the areas between your nostrils and lips. You develop deep laugh lines or labial folds.
Fine lines and creases also show along the outer corners of your eyes from lying on your sides. The skin in these facial areas squish together and push down toward your upper cheeks. Because your skin is thicker than a woman's skin, your laugh lines may appear more prominent when you smile.
By exchanging your flat pillow for one that is fluffier and thicker in texture and height, you support the weight of your head better. Also, sleep on your back to keep the weight of your from pressing down on your facial muscles.
If you insist on sleeping on your sides, keep your arms below your neck and head. Placing your arms higher than your shoulders forces the skin on your neck upward. It creates horizontal lines across your neck. In addition, position your face and head at an angle when you lie on your sides. To remove pressure from your the sides of your face when you do this.
After you obtain a better pillow to sleep on, change how you clean your face at night.
Skip the Soap and Use Warm Water Only
Unless you work at a job that exposes you to dirt and dust, you can skip the soap and simply rinse your face in warm water every other night. Washing your face every night removes moisture from your skin cells.
A number of products for men and women contain harsh chemicals that dry out your skin. Chemicals, such as sodium lauryl sulfate, break down the delicate cells of your face and exposes them to bacteria and other contaminants. The chemicals also increase dryness in your skin, which is one of the reasons you develop wrinkles and fine lines.
Wetting your face with warm water and massaging your skin with the pads of your fingertips increases blood circulation to your cells. The blood regenerates your skin cells so that they grow strong and healthy.
Good cell growth also increases the elasticity or strength in your facial muscles. Use a gentle circular motion when you massage your face for the best results but avoid placing too much pressure on the skin. You don't want to irritate or harm your skin or cells.
You should perform the tips above every other night for at least 5 minutes, then pat your face dry with a soft cotton towel.
If you want add moisture to your face without clogging up your pores, massage a dime-sized amount of coconut oil into your skin. The oil keeps your face hydrated during the night until you remove it with some type of hypoallergenic facial cleanser in the morning. Hypoallergenic cleansers don't contain dangerous chemicals but natural ingredients instead. If you need help finding products that are safe for your skin, ask a dermatologist for advice.
Taking care of your skin now may help reduce the effects of aging later. If you need additional help with your wrinkles and fine lines, contact a dermatologist from a clinic like Advanced Dermatology Care in your area.
Hello. Welcome to my site. I'm Vanessa Bulger. I have a newfound passion for online personal training after struggling for years with my weight and lack of muscle tone. I never believed I could be fit and strong before coming across personal trainers online. Instead, I simply believe the family ideology that we were big boned people who could not lose weight. Turns out, we simply didn't understand the mechanics of a good diet and exercise program. I followed my trainer's advice and, much to my surprise, slowly started to lose weight and gain strength. Today, I am fit, toned and couldn't be happier. I'd like to share information about the exciting online personal training industry with you through this site. I hope my information will inspire others to take control of their lives and improve their health with the help of a personal trainer. Thanks for visiting.
